No title No end
a performance, choreography, and interdisciplinary research project without a title and without an end.
Over the course of nine months in Barcelona, Rute Esteves will perform an array of works for both private and public audiences in different venues. Rute will also develop collaborate with various arts and artists living in the same environment. The different media (video, writing, photography, design and internet) and the contact with the influences that No title No end will receive will serve as a method for the creative process for the performance and choreography work.
As a point of departure, this research project will address the themes of:
-
privacy versus public - and vice versa
performer versus spectator - and vice versa
-
Throughout this work, Rute will seek to create situations that encourage the performer and the viewer to experience and reflect on the gap between them, attempting to close that gap, or to push the intimate into the individual’s public life.
Using the written choreography combined with video, the work will investigate the idea of being and not being with the body in space and time. The work will seek to create a language of movement that is full of new beginnings that are constantly repeated, and consequently updated and transformed. These moments will be marked by the linking and delinking of action, activated by a switch of the behaviour of the performer, choreographer and video graphic work.
With this project, Rute intends to capture and reflect the line that separates or unites the private sphere and the public sphere, and vice versa, as well as performer and audience, and vice versa, creating both a specific choreographic language and ways to connect with different artistic media.
------
the word versus used here incorporates two meanings attributed to it: from latin origins versus means "towards" indicating where we are headed, where we move, and in English the meaning has become "against", indicating a confrontation between two adversaries.
